Short Film...

This is my short film that I made for Linear, we were given 3 paragraphs and had to chose which one, I chose the second paragraph, about the knock on the door.
I decided to portray it as the story leading up to the moment in the paragraph.
I created a story board so I could put my ideas down and also help me when it came to filming:

I didnt use a very good camera, and the view is a little shakey, due to my unsteady hand, but over all I think I like the effect.
I used 2 actors, Zack Warner and Hannah Hand, (who played both the wife and the dead body), and I filmed in two locations.
I used the only software I had to hand, which was Windows Movie Maker.
At first where I had used my digital camera, I did not think (and I don't know why) that having my camera landscape or portrait would effect which way up it was when I got it on the computer, so the first thing I had to do was rotate the clip, so that is the reason as to why some of the clips fill the screen and some are smaller than the width.

I changed the first scene into black and white, and made it blurry, because I wanted it to seem to the audience as if it was the narrators distant memory, and the colour scenes were his most vivid.

I only used one other effect and that was on the mid-shot of the leading man putting the dead body in the car, for this I used a half-speed effect, to slow it down, I did this because as this is supposed to be a memory, the narrator is slowing down this action as he thought about it.

I then added the title scene and the credits, and then put the audio with the scenes.
This turned out to be quite difficult, because I had to match the audio with what sequence it was to be put with, and then when I tried to add the instrumental music I used (Beethoven's Moonlit Sontana) I found I could not insert two audio tracks overlaying eachother.
So I had to cut down my instrumental on the timeline, and fit it inbetween the narrator's audio. By doing it this way it has caused a slight gap between each and it does not flow the way I wanted it to.

This is the final cut, although I would like to re-do it, using a better software, so that my audio could overlay.

A Little Bit Late...

I know I am a little bit late in starting this, but I tried to start it on another blogging website and got a bit confused, I've used this site before so I came back to it!
So I am on the Digital Media Design course at London College of Communication!
Im feeling a little bit like a fish out of water at the moment, it's all totally new and Im not sure what my strengths are going to be yet... but we are only 3/4 weeks into the course so who knows!
I had some trouble with my enrollment (UCAS sent me a letter to say I wasnt on the course anymore :( ) but thats all sorted now, I am officially enrolled as a student.
Hopefully my will work get better as at the moment I have limited software, I have tried downloading the trial versions but my laptop hasn't enough space, but I am getting my loan through soon so I'm going to purchase an External Memory drive.
So far I have been enjoying it at the same time as finding it difficult!
I found it particularly challenging when we were asked to go off and draw people in only 2minutes, so I have been making a conscious effort to practice! (however I try not to get caught because I dont think commuters appreciate being drawn on the train!)
I have been enjoying the interactive lessons, although they are challenging, by the end of the lesson I end up wondering why I was so confused at the beginning! And everytime I look at what Ive done, to see if it works I feel a sort of sense of acheivement, which I like.
I am also sort of enjoying Contextual Studies as it is similar to what was involved in my A-Level Media, so I feel like I understand more.
The Linear lessons are the ones I am finding most difficult, which I found strange because I thought it would be ther other way around between Linear and Interactive, it will be interesting to see if stays like this!
I am looking forward to learning, as I love a challenge, and this is what I want to do!
